City Of Virginia Beach Invests In Special Operations Family Support

Bozeman, MT – 26 May 2026: The Station Foundation has been awarded a grant from the City of Virginia Beach to support Interwoven Virginia Beach, a community-based wellness and resilience initiative serving Special Operations Forces (SOF) families in the region.

Interwoven Virginia Beach provides locally accessible support to SOF service members, spouses, children, and Gold Star family members through facilitated events and group experiences designed to strengthen individual well-being, family relationships, and community resilience. Programming includes mindfulness-based stress reduction, relationship strengthening, peer connection, educational workshops and family-focused activities that foster meaningful relationships and long-term support networks.

Virginia Beach is home to one of the nation’s largest Special Operations communities. Repeated deployments, combat exposure, frequent transitions and the cumulative effects of sustained operational tempo can place significant strain on service members and their families. Many families hesitate to seek behavioral health support due to concerns about cultural competency or accessibility.

Interwoven Virginia Beach was developed to address these challenges through early intervention and prevention-focused programming delivered in familiar community settings. By creating opportunities for connection before challenges escalate into crisis, the program helps families build stronger support systems while reducing social isolation and strengthening community ties.

“This grant allows us to continue meeting Virginia Beach SOF families where they are,” said Jamie Dockiewicz, Director of Outreach Services at The Station Foundation. “These families need support that’s both accessible and understanding of their unique experiences. We’re building a community where they don’t have to explain what they’ve been through; they’re simply welcomed and supported.”

This investment by the City of Virginia Beach reflects a shared commitment to supporting military families and fostering healthier, more connected communities. All grant funds will be tied directly to program implementation and participant experience, ensuring responsible stewardship of public funds while strengthening The Station Foundation’s capacity to serve Virginia Beach SOF families.
